So this is it then,
The day has come and this time its different.
Or maybe this time it’s just all too much the same.
A day made for 2 when all you got is #1.
And you just know you’ll see that couple,
Laughing as they walk hand in hand,
That’s when you’ll feel it,
Bitterness, rising in your throat.
I’ve tasted that one before.
In the instant it takes to close your eyes it will come to you,
A picture of what was,
Of what you wished,
And of what never happened.
A broken promise from a broken person,
And now you are left with you.
Was it something he said,
Something he did,
Or what he didn’t do?
No matter, love is a strange being.

Some say its better to have loved and lost than to have never loved,
To have followed a road that has lead nowhere, than staying exactly where you are.

Either way,
You may not be someone’s first choice,
But it doesn’t mean you are second best.
Just like feeling lonely doesn’t mean you’re alone.
You may be broken, feeling you can’t be repaired,
But that’s because you can‘t fix someone who’s broken.
You have to let them heal.
Imagine that, humans being human.
I’m not a machine, and I doubt that you’re one either.
But what you put in, is quite often what you get out.
And sinking ships are sometimes not worth saving.

Must you be owned in order to belong?
Is there someone out there who will complete you, Make you whole?
It may be less about finding the piece to your puzzle than you’re willing to admit.
Love isn’t just about a hand to hold, a person beside you.
Its about learning to trust one, when all others have lied.
Its about doing your best, when you’ve done nothing but fail.
Its about loving like your heart has never been broken.
A bit more than a card some candy, and a date is soon forgotten.
Love isn’t something to be rushed, or wasted.
Something that goes beyond a day with a funny name.
To love and be loved, the story condensed.
Maybe you feel as if you’ve lost the plot.
That love is a long way off,
And in the here and now this ice cream will have to do.
But I’ll tell you this, that you are loved.
There is someone out there that can complete you.
That can teach love to the most broken heart.
